2007 - Brynn's Visit to the Great Wall

Wind players, as a group, seemed to fare somewhat less well, in spite of their famed "superior lung capacity". Of course, part of the problem may have been that a few of them elected to bring their instruments along, just in case. Brynn Rector was one of this group, hauling her C trumpet up several millions steps before pausing, about half way up, to play a lovely and inspirational (and wholly appropriate) excerpt from Mahler 5, which wafted up and down the valley in a most wonderful way.

A little while later I saw Brynn, trumpet slung over her shoulders, heading towards the top. Take that, string section! Coming down was -- as promised -- even harder than going up, and most of us reached the bottom with trembling legs, and hearty appetites. Lunch was just a long bus ride away.
